Focus on the Mission and Ministry of Hillsboro Presbyterian Church (2018-19)

Worship

The purpose of HPC's Worship Co-Mission is to rally and coordinate support for the various activities belonging to the worship and celebration of God at HPC.

Our hope is that everyone who enters the sanctuary for worship discovers an environment that draws their hearts & spirits nearer to God;

·         warm welcomes are given to both newcomers and long-timers;

·         music sings in our ears of God's unfailing love;

·         art & visuals catch our eyes with reminders of God's eternal attributes;

·         sacraments of communion and baptism are honored;

·         people of all ages and walks of life gather by God's grace to hear scripture expounded  and the gospel proclaimed, celebrating together the mystery of the Three-in-One;

·         this body of Christ unites in prayer, standing together in praise and thanksgiving.

God has richly blessed us through so many of you who volunteer your time and talents. We are grateful for blessings of talented musicians and singers, and especially our choir.

We are grateful for Nona Scott’s leadership as director, and Becky Smith as accompanist, giving both time and talent as a gift to the church.

Education

The purpose of education at HPC is to provide a foundation of Christian beliefs to better understand and respond to God’s saving acts in Jesus.

Through our children’s ministry, youth ministry, adult classes, and our new STEAM Camp, we strive to know God’s love, grow in knowledge, and go out to show God’s love.

Belief in Christ as God’s only Son who lived among us as wholly God and wholly man, experiencing the human condition, then suffering and dying on the cross to pay our debt for salvation, is the one message we can agree to be truth. Bringing the positive message of Jesus Christ and His salvation is the goal of this ministry.

We are grateful for the blessing of our Children’s Director, Jill Appel, along with the many skilled volunteers who give of themselves to guide and teach our children.

We are also blessed by our volunteer servant leaders for youth ministry. Tom Pansino, David Gonnason, Max Geppert and others are an amazing team, blessing our youth every week.

 We will continue our search for a part-time youth director on our staff team. To do so we need your prayers and support to fulfill the mission with youth to which God calls us.

Mission

HPC is involved in a variety of missions that are supported by devoted servants and dedicated funds.

One unique mission is Tuesday's Treasures, in partnership with Quiet Waters Outreach. TT was founded 21 years ago by Steve Ristow, right here at HPC. Many of our amazing volunteers have been with this ministry since it began.

This ministry meets a critical need because approximately one of out every ten families has an individual with a developmental disability. Only 6% of churches in the country have a ministry for these individuals and their caregivers.

The Treasure Nights we offer are a monthly activity night filled with songs, Biblical messages, prayer, games, crafts and refreshments.

Anyone is welcome to attend anytime and just be present to interact with the Treasures and their caregivers.

We have also been inspired to partner with Becky Smith and the work of Village of Hope in Uganda.

Your generosity has provided for Becky’s travel and stay at VOH, and to support this ministry to orphans brutalized by war who are rescued from becoming child soldiers or sex slaves.

VOH provides a loving, vibrant and safe community to help these children become self- sustaining leaders.

We were also blessed to have the Zoolkoski’s share about the mission  of  Galmi Hospital in Niger that we support.

These are just a few examples of how our continuing generosity helps to do God’s work for the least of these.

Property

Property is responsible for keeping our “house” functioning and the doors open and welcoming. This includes looking presentable, the building is neat, clean, tidy, and in good repair

Warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There is enough room for family and friends and a safe place for the children to learn and play.

Expenses that come under Property are:

·         Utilities, Building Maintenance & Repairs,

·         Grounds Care for church building and manse,

·         Capital Reserve, Insurance and Liability.

Here are some of the current and coming projects to keep our house in good order:

·         Continue repairs on downspout water damage

·         Office ceiling repair

·         Patio Arbor Upgrade

·         Adding water supply to the HPC Garden

·         Repair and paint church signs

·         Paint the church building

·         Paint the manse

Session Goals

Focus for the coming year:

·         Intentional about Intergenerational Ministry

·         Service to the community; hands-on mission
