It has been an exciting year or two for our children’s ministries. What began as “reopening our nursery” following the pandemic has become a ministry to our most important generation, our children. HPC has a long history of ministering to children in our neighborhood and families.
“Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:15
Worship Services
Children are more than welcome in our worship services on Sundays at 10:00 am. There are children’s activity bags in the narthex and books in the back of the sanctuary. A special “children’s time” follows the first third of the service, and children are invited to sit on the steps with the pastor and other volunteers.
Our pastor and volunteers seek to include all generations when possible, as learning worship skills is foundational to our lives. You are welcome to sit anywhere in the sanctuary and to join in as you wish. If your child feels more comfortable bringing a toy or sitting on the floor, they’re welcome to do that too. Following the children’s time, they are dismissed to the Nursery and Children’s Room, or they are welcome to remain in the worship service. On Communion Sundays, communion is also served in the Nursery and Children’s Room, for those who desire. Be sure to read more about what to expect during our services, and let us know if you have questions!
Children’s Room (“Blue Room”)
Our Children’s Room, or “Blue Room” has recently been redecorated and organized, and we are so excited about this play area for those who are toddlers, or who find the nursery to be a little small and restrictive. Coloring pages, puzzles, and much more are available in the Blue Room, and there is easy access to our beautiful playground, when weather permits.
Nursery
Our nursery is staffed by qualified and background-checked volunteers, skilled at caring for infants and toddlers. A small restroom for your little ones connects the Nursery and Blue Room. Parents are always welcome to stay with their children, or to check on them frequently during the service.
Fellowship Time & Activity Station
Our own pastor’s kids used to call HPC “the cookie church,” and we agree! Fellowship time begins following our worship
service, and much takes place during this time. Each week is different, and we are so thankful for our many volunteers who make it special. While the adults visit over cookies and coffee, be sure to grab a snack and look for our children’s activity station, right there in the fellowship hall. When we learned about God’s creation of humankind, we played with playdough. In the summer months, we made big bubbles, played on the playground, and scribbled with chalk. During the fall, we painted small pumpkins to take home. And we loved when we mixed up fruit salad! Our children’s ministry team is brand new and we would love to have you join us. Contact us if you are interested!
Special Events
Children’s ministry is a “growing edge” at HPC, meaning we are relying on the Holy Spirit to guide us as we develop and relaunch this important ministry. While we don’t have the staff of a large church, we are grateful for the resources and volunteers we do have. HPC’s intergenerational environment is the future of ministry, and relationships with others ground our children when they grow older and are in need of support. Special events throughout the year include an Egg Hunt at Easter, summer activities, and much more. Reach out to be a part of this important vision at HPC!
